1810 Fine English Georgian Sterling Silver Vinaigrette by Matthew Linwood

Description: Presented is a fabulous English Georgian sterling silver vinaigrette. This piece dates to 1810 and was made by Matthew Linwood. The exterior of the case has an eye-catching design on the top and bottom. The interior has a rich gold wash over its entire surface, including the pierced grate. The grate is done in a beautiful filigree style, with fine texturing and delicate openwork. The lid has a circular patch of silver covering an old monogram, so the silver has not been thinned with monogram removal and the patch could easily be monogrammed today. This piece is in great condition. The hinge of the box is in great shape, and the lid closes smoothly. The gold wash of the interior is in great shape. The box has what we believe is its original cotton inside, still with a faint sweet smell. The lid of the box has a circular patch of applied silver covering a monogram. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, and no repairs. The lid of the box is stamped on the interior with King George III's head duty mark, the maker's mark ML for Matthew Linwood, and the lion passant for sterling silver. On the interior of the box is stamped the anchor for the city of Birmingham, the maker's mark ML for Matthew Linwood, and the date letter m for 1810. The box measures about 1 3/4 by 1 3/8 by 3/8 of an inch, LxWxH. This piece weighs 37.4 grams. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
