Description: This antique cabinet card from 1910 features an early photo of Gaston Bell (1877-1963), famous stage and film actor of numerous Broadway Operettas, Musicals and films. After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1902, Bell started his acting career as a member of Charles Frohman’s theatrical organization. He toured and performed in many plays including Trilby (as Little Billee), Julie Bonbon ( one of her 3 suitors), the long running Brewster’s Milllions (as Horace Pettingill), Caught In The Rain (Bryce Forrester), and Seven Sisters. In 1912, Bell entered film, first with the Majestic Motion Picture Company, then Kinemacolar Company of America, and Lublin Manufacturing Company. His last known motion picture was The Heart of a Gypsy in 1919. Afterwards, Bell was back on the road touring in The Naughty Wife, Cheating Cheaters and others. After retiring to Woodstock, New York, Bell wrote plays and served as the director of the Woodstock Community Players. The card is an original photo of Gaston Bell taken by Apeda Photo Studio in New York. The photo is signed, “With my best wishes, Sincerely, Gaston Bell.” The authentic signature and personal address make this a valuable piece of entertainment memorabilia for collectors of early broadway and theatre ephemera. The photo measures 6.75”H x 4.75”W. Condition is good, but there is foxing and some minor creasing. Please review all photos as they are part of the description. The studio name, Apeda, NY, is signed in white at the bottom of the card and printed along with the address on the back of the photo. It is a great addition to any collection of theater-related items and a must-have for fans of antique photography.
