First units of a 1.250-man Brazilian force were due in Santo Domingo, May 24th, to join small units from Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. The Inter-American Peace Army - the first such group in the history of the Western Hemisphere - was created by the OAS to help solve the chaotic Dominican crisis.
