Description: This listing is for Volume 2 of a 3 volume set, entitled, Yesleta del Sur Pueblo Archives, Texas Tigua Tribe, prepared by Nicholas P. Houser in April of 2000, this book is the study of a unique people and their land to which they have been spiritually and communally bonded for more than three centuries. As an aftermath of the Pueblo Revolt, the pueblos of Ysleta, Senecu and Socorro were relocated in the El Paso Valley. As early as 1692, Governor Diego de Vargas recognized that the pueblos were located on lands that belonged to them under Spanish law. The Viceroy agreed with de Vargas' position. In 1871, the State of Texas, in violation of federal law (The Non-Intercourse Act, 25 U.S.C. 177) incorporated the Ysleta Grant as a city and gave the city fathers the ability to convey away the grant. By grim irony, Indians under the Texas constitution, could not vote. This volume 2 of the Ysleta del Sur Archives efforts to subvert Indian title to the Ysleta Grant. This book will be a great resource for the college student, historian or an addition to your history library. Book is in like new shape, with one small brown spot on the right edge.
