Description: Offering an antique tea cup and saucer from the United Kingdom, manufactured by John Ridgway circa 1800-1840. This teacup and saucer features a deep cobalt blue patterned with gold scrolling and framed floral pictures. The pattern mark on the bottom is 2735. The teacup measures about 3.5" in diameter and the saucer about 6". A feature of these antique sets is that the saucer is deeper than usual, performing as a shallow bowl for spilled tea. Both the bottom of the tea cup and the center of the saucer have a painting of what i think are seashells? I considered that they might be flower buds but they just look more like seashells.... No chips or cracks. The porcelain does have random age pitting and light discoloration on the base. The gold is a bit worn overall but still very present. There are some smudges of cobalt blue paint on the white portions of the sides. These 200 year old porcelains were made in coal fired kilns whose uneven heat could produce firing specks at times.
