Description: Antique Victorian Hand Painted and Mother of Pearl Hand Fan Dated 1861 A gorgeous hand painted fan, from the mid 19th century, dated 1861, probably Italian. The double 'chicken skin' (a type of textured paper) leaf hand painted in gouache with an allegorical/classical scene. The back has an inscription in French, It translates to " For Mrs. Theresina Personelli, in grateful remembrance, Louis Guillaume" 1861. The sticks are carved and pierced mother of pearl and the guardstick length is 10 3/4". The guards are backed with mother of pearl which shows through the piercing. In very good condition.
