Description: Thanks for checking out our items! Oh- the excitement Cal Ripken generated in baseball through the summer of 1995. Every time he suited up and played, it brought him closer to Lou Gehrig’s “unbreakable” consecutive games-played record of 2130. Some claim Cal saved baseball. MLB was trying to shake the effects of the players strike that went from August 1994 to April 1995. Many fans were turned off and refused to attend games. Bu then fans began to notice the ‘Iron Man’ and ‘The Streak’ he was amassing. They started coming back through stadium turnstiles, especially Orioles fans and wherever the Orioles played. As the sun was setting the evening of 6 September 1995, Cal stepped onto the field at Camden Yards and the banner on the warehouse just past right field was unfurled to read “2131”. The stadium erupted, the hometown hero had done what was said to be impossible. Ripken would go on the play 2,632 consecutive games. Imagine playing 162 games for over 16 years without a day off, injuries and all. Fortunately, Cal suffered no major injuries during ‘The Streak’. We have new, sealed 2130-2131 game balls from that historic event. Do any current MLB players have the stuff that it takes to become the next “Iron Man”?
