Also known as a Pacific Triton Trumpet...by cutting off the end of the spire or making a round hole in the side...voila, a musical instrument..& a wonderful specimen. Natives used this large species as trumpets & horns for religious and nautical purposes...also as a form of communication both near & far. In Greek mythology, it was Triton's job (the son of Poseidon) to come to the suface and blow a blast from his trumpet after Poseidon had brought on a very bad storm.
