Description: This listing is for the exceptional work “Untitled”, 1963 by Ernest Briggs (1923-1984) pictured above. About this work: A fantastic abstract expressionist composition by an important second generation artist. Ernest Briggs left California and arrived in New York in 1953 where he brought a fresh, lively approach to painting. During the 1950s as part of the New York avant-garde, Briggs was able to make a name for himself with his explosive and dynamic aesthetics. His works reflected a radical West Coast style that he developed at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco under the tutelage of artists such as Mark Rothko, Ad Reinhardt, and Clyfford Still. This particular work is acrylic on canvas and features lyrical strokes of black, red, and gold against a white background. The work retains numerous labels on the reverse from prior exhibitions/galleries. It is housed in a white floating frame. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a prime example of Briggs’ work for less than traditional galleries.
