Description: GORGEOUS AZURITE CRYSTALS - 5.5 cm - HOLBROOK EXTENSION, BISBEE, ARIZONA 28864 GORGEOUS AZURITE CRYSTALS - 5.5 cmHOLBROOK EXTENSION, BISBEE, ARIZONA This is an excellent small cabinet specimen from Bisbee. It is a wonderful example of the dark blue crystals found in underground workings in the early decades of the 20th century. The Holbrook Extension (of the Lavender Pit) was a project to mine all that was left of the Holbrook Mine. The project began in 1969 and finished in 1972. This specimen features lovely rosettes of the dark blue crystals standing on both sides of a matrix of massive azurite. The crystals formed on a vuggy limonite matrix. It’s a great old collection piece from historic Bisbee, ‘Queen of the Copper Camps’. Bisbee mines have been closed for almost 50 years (1975). The mine properties are still patrolled 24/7 and trespassers are arrested.
