Measures approx. 160” x 43”, the DDR State Emblem is a separate piece of fabric 25” in diameter, stitched to the banner. The length of each of the 3 parts is: Black = 53”, Red = 54”, Yellow = 53”. Comes with the original control tag still attached to the flag. The fabric is not specified on the control tag but appears to be cotton or a cotton/synthetic blend. The fabric is very sturdy and rather heavy-weight, the banner weighs nearly 3 lbs. This is the kind of banner that was meant to hang on the façade of a building or serve as a backdrop in a large meeting or concert hall. Anyone who watched a movie or documentary with a scene of a Nazi mass gathering have seen similar banners. The East German government apparently found this decoration close to heart and continued the “Deutschland über alles” tradition, only with the new centerpiece. The banner is in very good to excellent condition. There is a rather faint discoloration running along the fold in the center, evidently acquired in storage. Also, there is a very small area at the top of the state emblem where the fabric has creased and folded over the stitching, most likely acquired in storage as well, probably easy to iron out. Other than that, the banner is in perfect condition: the colors are bright and strong, there are no rips, stains or catches in the fabric. The double stitching along the perimeter and connecting the 3 parts is completely intact and strong. Please note that the yard stick in our photos is for size reference only.
