Description: Whether you are a collector of unique cookbooks, or a heritage chef that can translate German, or you remember a favorite recipe from your German grandmother, this is a wonderfully unique early 20th century cookbook that is looking for a new forever home. Published as a blank book, probably in Bavaria, Germany, c1900, it has side tabs that identify the different types of recipes to be added in each section. Possibly written by different cooks based on the handwriting, the front sections still have some blank pages but the last five sections after salads have all the pages filled. A rarity even in Germany where it was published, this well-preserved copy is truly a keepsake that deserves to be treasured. Condition: Leather edition with spine and corner tips in black textured leather with remainder of board in dark green cloth. The title “Koch Recepte” embossed on the front cover in gold gilt with an old German typeface shows some rubbing but is still legible. The leather back strip has four blind stamped gold gilt bands with decoration at the top and bottom of the back strip. Spine and boards are in very good condition with some rubbing, wear, fraying of the cloth along the front edge, and slight blemishes but are structurally sound with no slanting and no cracking to the decorative endpapers. Corners were rounded at publication and show only slight bumping and wear. The recipe text block has gold gilt along all sides – top, bottom and front except the front edges are more faded. Thirteen category tabs in leather with gold gilt labeling although three of the tabs are missing the leather (probably from extensive use) and the final pages have curling at the bottom edge. There is one page that has the top corner piece missing but otherwise all pages appear to be intact. Age tanning throughout with the last four sections showing smears and stains from use in the kitchen but most recipes still legible. There is a publisher stamp on the front endpaper that reads “Julius Seifert Papierhandlurg (Paper Handling), Hirschberg (Mountain in Bavaria).” Unpaginated. Dimensions: H – 8-1/4” W – 6-1/2”
