Description: A small 2 5/8 inch tall oval-shaped light SUN COLORED amethyst glass antique BAYER ASPIRIN or HEROIN tablets bottle. NOTE that the BAYER embossing is in a cross design. The Bayer Cross is one of the world’s best-known trademarks and was registered in 1904. The bottle for sale here (oval, embossed cross, w/hand finished top) is the very FIRST STYLE of this bottle used by FREDERICK BAYER and is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand Blown Into Mold (BIM) bottle with a hand finished ground lip, dating back to very early 1900. Bottle embossed: "BAYER / BAYER", in cross pattern, AGAIN, the earliest style bottle used by Bayer. Condition: This bottle is in good sturdy condition. Though it has some wisps of stain and areas of age wear, there are NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. The tin cap is not the original cap and it is corroded but it does fit over the top of the bottle and gives it a complete look. (See photos for overall condition). Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a ground-top, ca. early 1900. Shipping: FREE domestic shipping. We DO ship Internationally but we do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate. If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time. This is the VERY FIRST style of the oval-shaped small pocket-edition bottle used by Bayer. As noted, the BAYER embossing in the cross design is one of the world’s best-known trademarks and was registered in 1904. The bottle for sale here is the very FIRST STYLE of this bottle used by FREDERICK BAYER and were used for pills and tablets. There were originally two (2) sizes and styles, this is the smallest size, the oval tear drop shaped bottle made to easily fit in a pocket or purse. The other style is a little larger sized rectangular shaped bottle. This little bottle here is the earliest, most desirable style and size, and another bonus of this one is the light SUN COLORED AMETHYST coloration. With few exceptions, sun colored amethyst glass dates from prior to 1914, which not only authenticates this little bottle as being a true antique (over ONE HUNDRED YEARS OLD but also adds to its eye appeal. Just about all of the antique' Bayer bottles you see for sale on the internet are the newer bottles with the word Bayer embossed on each side. But this original bottle with embossing in cross on front in oval slug plate, with hand finished lips, are rarely seen for sale in comparison, they are becoming extremely hard to find! And also there is a Heroin connection as aspirin is not the only product put out by Bayer. Bayer actually started producing HEROIN in the late 1800's. Using the name ( Heroin ) supposedly because early testers said it made them feel heroic or like a hero thus heroin (hero{in}) became the name. Bayer began selling it in tablet form in the 1890's. By 1899, Bayer was producing about a ton of heroin a year, and was eventually exporting the drug to other countries as well, including the USA. But reports of HEROIN addiction reached dangerous proportions so in the early 19-teens, Bayer wisely elected to withdraw from Heroin production. Bayer had released their aspirin tablets at about the time they were producing heroin and so turned all of its resources to the manufacturer of aspirin, and this new non-addictive painkiller and anti-inflammatory was well on zits way to becoming the most popular drug ever.
