Description: Offered is this lovely porcelain china cider pitcher and 4 mugs or glasses, hand painted in Japan (Nippon) about 1920 or earlier. We consider this a half-gallon pitcher (48 ounces), but it could hold 80 ounces if filled to the max. The pitcher could be used for cider, lemonade, beer or water. The set includes FOUR matching mugs or handled glasses with the same decorative motif. The glasses will hold 8 ounces. The design features purple and orange clusters of grapes with green foliage and grapevines. A buff-colored band encircles the rim. It is decorated with gold geometric designs and is topped by a gold band. An ice lip appears inside the pitcher. It too is decorated with gilded geometric designs. Gold trim also decorates the handle. The squatty jug stands about 6 inches tall (15 cm). The mugs stand about 4 inches tall (10 cm). Very good used condition. No chips or cracks. Gold trim in good condition but does show some wear. One photo shows a magazine article on cider pitchers, popular in the late 19th and early 20th century. Domestic shipping is free. The item will be insured. Questions welcomed. Thanks for looking. Sorry. No returns. All items are sold “as is.”
