RARE Set 2 Homer Laughlin Century Ivory with Red Stripe 9" Lunch Lucheon Plates

Description: RARE Set 2 Homer Laughlin Century Ivory with Red Stripe 9" Lunch Lucheon Plates A set of 2 rare Homer Laughlin 8-3/4" inch (often just labeled as 9" plates) ceramic dinner / luncheon plates from the Century line with the beautiful red stripe on the ivory vellum glaze. This is the epitome of Art Deco Style, Simple Elegance, and highly desirable - especially these classic scalloped edges. Both plates are from December of 1939 per the backstamps. Century was introduced in 1931 and ran until the late 1940s. This is truly an important piece for the Homer Laughlin Collector - this is the Century Ivory Vellum Glaze. The Century shape was developed in 1930. On February 2, 1931, Frederick Rhead noted in his journal: Finished modeling Century Square shape with Vellum glaze. Samples shown at Pittsburgh show in January. Numerous trails of Vellum were made in the then new Century shape as well as Wells. Both plates have at least one backside edge chips and some small fleabites, but not visible from the top. Slight wear on the red stripes, typical of these vintage plates. Beautiful display condition on these rare pieces. One plate has some factory glaze spray on the surface on one side mostly and the other has a small glaze pop on the top surface - typical factory imperfections. Pieces may have other small factory flaws such as sand bumps, glaze pops, or slight glaze misses possible on these plates. Great overall vintage condition overall for these hard to find plates.
