RARE tiny BANJO shape PURPLE antique PERFUME bottle w/pic STORK moon stars trees

Description: A 3 1/2 inch tall nice PURPLE AMETHYST color antique flat flask or 'banjo' shaped bottle that is embossed w/ a picture of a SWAN, FOREST, and a CRESCENT MOON and STAR above the trees. This is not a recently produced foreign bottle, it was made 135 years ago in the USA. It has the W.T. & Co. base embossing for the Whitall Tatum glass company that was manufacturing bottles back in 19th Century NEW JERSEY. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a crudely sheared top, dating back to the 1800's. Condition: Bottle is in NICE CLEAN condition. It has some traces of haze and age wear, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. PLEASE see pictures for overall appearance/condition.Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a sheared-top, ca. late 1800's. Shipping: FREE domestic shipping. We DO ship Internationally but we do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate. If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time. A very unique little bottle, so unique that we are not sure if it is a little perfume flask, cologne or scent bottle, or exactly what, but it has the earmarks of one of these. Do you now? It is an American made bottle as it has the "W.T. & CO." base embossing. This stands for "Whitall Tatum & Co." , an old time glass plant that was in New Jersey. Note the greatly detailed embossed picture on it of a Swan (Stork?) with outspread wings, with a crescent moon and star, along with trees and other landscape, in picture # 2 and 3 show. The sheared top was done at the factory, it wasn't because the lip was damaged so it was ground down, ALL of them have sheared tops. And then there is the beautiful purple amethyst color of this glass, the result of having manganese (a mineral) in the glass, a mineral that was pulverized and added to vats of liquid glass that acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the glass crystal clear. When exposed to the ultra violet lights, the manganese will start to oxidize and take on an amethyst color. The longer the glass is in the sun, the deeper purple it will become. This bottle has been exposed to a high UV heat/light source to enrich this purple color. On account of this purple color, you can see every detail of the embossing because you are looking right at the embossing. With clear glass, you look through the embossing which is heavily influenced by the color and light patterns in the background. With this deep purple color, you are looking, not through the glass but right at the glass, so that every little embossed detail is highly visible like the SWAN, trees, moon and star on this bottle. With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst. Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make this a great looking bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique, which just makes this a choice miniature antique bottle. About a decade ago 5 or 6 of these were found in an old building in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were found in a wooden box along with some ancient art supplies; antique paint brushes, tiny bottles of paint, and other related items. Long story short, I was contacted about them to see what I might know about them and as a result, I was able to purchase the bottles. We have just a few left now, and this is one of the last, check it out! Terms of Sale: Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction. We put our 30+ years of experience in antiques to use in describing every item we list. Items are sold in a store front format and your purchase is a binding contract, so please don't be hasty when looking over the listing.
