Description: Item has been relisted due to not one but two bidders who were unaware of the bidding process. PLEASE be sure that you understand your responsibilities as a bidder. This vintage 1980's Steelcase Office Chair Model "Unknown", possibly 454-???O, is a rare find for any collector. Made in the United States, this office chair boasts a unique design with rare Shepherd casters and comes in a striking burgundy wine colored tweed fabric. The chrome is bright and has a mirror like finish. The brand Steelcase is known for their quality office furniture and this chair is no exception. Perfect for any business or home office setting, this chair is a must-have for anyone looking to add a touch of vintage charm to their office or home. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of history with this rare vintage Steelcase Office Chair. CONDITION - There are a few minor dings on the back of the arm rest supports. The dark spot on the back rest about 5" down and to the left of center is NOT a stain. It is a small area where the fabric has frayed a bit. There is one nick on the back of the backrest, about 1/4" long and a very shallow scratch, hardly noticeable, about 1 1/2" long, as well as a few horizontal marks across the back that only show from a certain angle. A couple of the caster wheels are scuffed up on the black part of the wheel itself. The chair is completely 100% fully functional. The chrome polished up very well as the pictures show. This chair is in excellent condition, considering it's about 40 years old. I have been unable to find any other examples of this chair. Until I noticed one listed here by another seller. They are almost exactly the same, except this one has arm rests and a different color fabric. That seller also expressed their unrewarded efforts to find another example of the chair. Noting the cost of replacing the casters alone was $100. My chair also has the original labels. Which one would think would be helpful in determining the information for that chair. But allas, the only info filled in on the factory tag is a hand written "O" in the model number space. Then I found an example exactly like this, except the color, and the base was a matching plastic base, no chrome at all. It was labeled 454-520M, from 1986. I think that this is either a one-off custom chair, or an example of "let's see what this looks like" at the assembly plant. Either way, whoever's job it was to hand write the "O" for the model number did their job. But the person responsible for stamping the prefix to the "O", as well as the rest of the label, didn't have to do their job. Maybe there is no model number for this beautiful amalgamation of Steelcase Craftsmanship. I'll let the bidders decide. The measurements are 35.75" high (with backrest at highest point), 24.5" wide (outside of armrests), 22.5" deep (caster base). The backrest measures 16" wide by 15" high. The seat measures 19.5" wide by 19" deep. Weight is 41 lbs. I will be slightly disassembling the chair into 3 major parts, individually bubble wrapped, in order to save the buyer on shipping. The chair will be easy to reassemble by the buyer. I will be recleaning and sanitizing just prior to shipping. Dry cleaning the fabric of the chair should be done by the buyer, I only brush or wipe fabrics with water. If you have any questions, information or ideas, please message me.
