Description: Recently, we received poor feedback from a buyer who claims that the MCA stills are reprints. As Paul Harvey used to say, "Now, the rest of the story." The studios held on to most of their still negatives until storage became a problem. One company, Film Favorites, obtained most of the negatives which the studios were going to throw away. [FF was founded by twin brothers, Bob and Charles Smith.] From their business in Canton OK, the twins offered stills to collectors, authors, journalists, and TV packages. The stills were in two formats. Some stills were photocopies, and the others came off the negatives. The copied stills were cheaper and lacked a clear black and white contrast. They were variants of gray and had a matte surface. Those stills which lacked the gray and had a black and white contrast were made from the negatives and had a glossy surface. They cost more. The MCA package, being black and white, came from the negatives. I obtained my MCA stills from FF in the late 1980's. In the late 1970's, MCA television acquired a collection of films for television distribution. As part of the advertising campaign, stills were made off of the original negatives.
