Description: VG= / VG+. 1966 Farrar, Straus and Giroux, stated first printing. Hardcover with dust jacket. Tough to find title that provided the basis for the 1971 film version directed by Jerry Schatzberg and starring Al Pacino in his first lead role. It was one of the first films to portray “realistic” heroin use, which caused it to be Rated X. The screenplay was co-written by Joan Didion, who also lobbied for the lead role to go to Doors singer Jim Morrison, before Pacino was eventually chosen.Very nice condition dust jacket, but book is a bit beat up.
