Description: Offered for your consideration is a vintage Infinity 2½ inch Polydome rapid acceleration dome midrange removed from my Infinity RSIIIb speakers, manufactured c.1987. The online specifications for the RSIIIa/b shows 902-5016 as the part number, but it is not visible on any of these that I’ve seen over the years. It’s likely stamped on the magnet cover underneath the non-removable black plastic cap. The 902-5016 Polydome was also used in the RSIIIa, RS4b, RS5b, RS6b, and possibly other high-end Infinity speakers in the mid-to-late 1980’s. So, please take a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this superb Infinity mid-frequency driver is correct for your needs. *Although the listing is written in singular to avoid any confusion, two (2) identical Infinity Polydome midrange drivers are available at the time of this writing. Please choose if you’d like to buy one or both in the quantity field at the top of the listing. Any additional shipping cost that may be needed will be added at eBay checkout. This Infinity Polydome midrange is in clean, excellent condition. The radiating surface is in great shape, well-protected behind the acoustically transparent metal grate covered with a polymer film. And, the attractive plastic faceplate has perfect lettering and no scratches, just some unavoidable marks at the mount holes. Lastly, the +/- terminals measure the industry-standard .205”, are marked for polarity (red dot side is positive), and have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, this Polydome mid is exceptionally well preserved! Most importantly, it’s been recently tested and sound terrific—strong output with fast, detailed midrange coverage extending deep into treble. Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 3.9Ω, consistent with a nominal 4 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the faceplate measures about 6¼” diameter, it stands some 2½” tall (incl. the raised dome), and the mount holes are spaced 3¾” adjacent / 5¼” diagonal apart, c-t-c. This is a super find if your RSIIIb, or other suitable RS model, has a Polydome midrange that’s blown or damaged and will have your cherished Infinity speakers sounding perfect once again. And, long discontinued with prices for excellent examples rising every year, it’s a smart spare to stash away for future needs!
